"After a long jury discussion, the recipient of this year's J:son scholarship is chosen. Jury's comments:
The J:son scholarship 2018 goes to a musician and composer that with a brilliant touch for his instrument, and a refined communication with his musical contempories, takes us on a whirlwind crossover through the contemporary music landscape.
The pianist Joel Lyssarides, with his truly curious and versatile artistry, has been awarded this year's scholarship.
Joel Lyssarides (Stockholm) began playing the piano already at four years old. At an early age, he was introduced to the albums of Keith Jarret, Chick Corea, Bill Evans and Herbie Hancock - all of whom have had a large influence on his musical development. At the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, he studied with Ove Lundin, and in the last year of his degree he went as an Erasmus student to the conservatoire in Rome, Conservatorio Di Santa Cecilia. In recent years, Joel has worked with: Anne Sofie von Otter, Silvana Imam, Svante (och Katarina ) Henrysson, Sven Bertil Taube, Nils Landgren, Mats Bergström, Benny Andersson, Magnus Lindgren, Dirty Loops, Robert Ikiz and Kristin Amparo.
This summer he released his début album "Dreamer".
"The J:son scholarship gives me the opportunity to devote a month of in-depth study to Ravel's "Daphnis et Chloé". I am very interested in orchestration and have dreamt of getting the time to deepen my artistry in Ravel's compositions, arrangements and also orchestrations, and the instrumentation technique to be able to start working in the long-term on my own first classical piano concerto."
The J:son scholarship is handed over at Janne Schaffer's Christmas Concert at the Gustaf Vasa Church on Saturday 15th of December at 7 o'clock PM.
